TOOLBAR FOR MORE IMPORTANT COMPETITION TEAM INFORMATION ***
Welcome to our 2011/2012 dance season, and more importantly, congratulations on being selected
amongst all our Stars to become a member of our fantastic competition team!! Please read through this information carefully
as it will explain all the benefits and requirements of being on the EDC Competition Team.
To become a member of our award winning team, a dancer must possess a positive attitude, great dedication, and an exceptional
understanding of dance technique. This is measured by a dancer's performance throughout the previous dance season.
Being invited to join the team is an outstanding priviledge as not every dancer at Elite Dance Corps
has this same opportunity. Becoming a member of our team means that you, along with your teammates, will travel from
city to city competing for championship titles! What fun!
BENEFITS OF COMPETITIVE DANCING
Not only do dancers gain self-confidence by dancing in front of a large audience and adjudicators, competitve
dancing also instills a sense of discipline and motivation that one will carry throughout the rest of their life. Dancers
will learn how to be humble winners and, more importantly, they'll learn to be respectful losers. Our philosophy
at Elite Dance Corps is to learn how to win great and lose great. Everyone must be able to
accept defeat and learn from it...always be happy of the outcome. Competitive dancing is such a great experience that
losing is never an option! Every competition experience is a good one and should be treated as such. The staff
at EDC always view our team members as winners! Dancers will also participate in the Santa
Claus Parade, Canada Day Celebration, and Carrot Fest. These performances are mandatory for competition
team dancers. Schedules for these performances will be given at a later date, for which we ask dancers to
arrange to be there. Dancers are encouraged to attend dance workshop classes with master instructors. This will
increase their dance knowledge and technique. Some workshops may be mandatory for some groups.
COMPETITION TEAM REQUIREMENTS
- Dancers will always be respectful of all other dancers on their team and other dance studios.
Remember, you are representing the entire EDC Team when away at compeitions.
- Dancers will train hard and laugh hard! We want you to enjoy dancing and at the same time work hard within
your group. You get out of your training what you put into it.
- Dancers must maintain a
good standing with school marks. Dancers that are not meeting satisfactory grades at school will be pulled from the
competition team. This will be at the discretion of your dance teacher and parents.
- Dancers
will be well behaved at all times. Don't let your team down! Any dancers misbehaving will be removed from the team.

All Dancers must purchase a fleece EDC vest with their name embroidered on
the front. This is your team attire and must be worn at all competitions and special performances. The vest will
let everyone know where you dance, and will help your teacher find you at competition venues!!! An EDC vest
is $50.00 (taxes included) and is yours to keep. Competition team dancers are also expected to
always wear appropriate dance attire to all classes. Please refer to your Information Package given to you upon registration.
Any dancers attending class with improper uniform will receive a warning. Should a dancer come to class a second time
with improper uniform, they will be asked to sit out and receive a mark of absence. More then 4 unauthorized
absences will result in the removal from the team!
Attendance is a very important aspect of being a member on the competition team. When a dancer
is absent, they are missing important lessons and holding up choreography progress. This is a team and it will only
be successful if everyone acts and thinks like a team. Continuously being absent will not further a dancer's technique.
We need and expect 100% dedication. A dancer on the competition team should only be away from class if they are severely
ill. Dancers that are "under the weather" are asked to view their class, so as not to miss important
lessons...they will not be marked absent. Because attendance is so crucial to the success of the
team, our members are allowed 4 absences throught the entire dance season unless a doctor's note is present.
Should a dancer continuously miss classes, they will be asked to leave the team. All competition
team members except the risk that another team member may become injured throughout the season. Every effort will be
made to make minimal choreography adjustments. Dances may or may not be cancelled from future performances. This
is at the sole-discretion of the studio director.
Elite Dance Corps strives to make their dancers well-rounded. Our dancers will participate
in the Royal Academy of Dancing Ballet exams, as well as, Performing Arts Educators
of Canada Jazz, Tap, and Acro exams. Exams offer dancers the opportunity to showcase their talent to an
industry professional in a more intimate setting. Participating in dance exams allows the dancers to know their progress
in a particular discipline of dance by measuring their level of technique. Dance exams and extra classes will be an
additional fee. More information to follow.
SOLO/DUET/TRIO/SPECIAL GROUP Some
dancers on the EDC Competition Team will be given the honour of performing in a Solo/Duet/Trio/Special Group. These
unique dances are given by invitation only at the sole discreation of the EDC staff. Dancers that are given this fantastic
opportunity are required to posses extreme dedication and excellent dance technique. All solo/duet/trio/special group
choreography classes will be held throughout the summer months with extra rehearsals scheduled throughout the regular dance
season. This will alleviate the pressure of a busy dance schedule during the regular season, as well as provide dancers
with ample time to perfect their dance! Dancers will receive a minimum of
8-30 minute choreography classes. Seperate dance fees, costume fees and competition fees will be required for these
dances (non-refundable). Dancers are expected to reserve studio time (availability pending) to rehearse their solo/duet/trio/special
group dances on their own time. It is with a lot of practice that our advanced dancers, selected for these unique dances,
will excel at their upcoming competition meets. Dancers selected for solo/duet/trio/special group in a specific dance
discipline, must be enrolled in the same discipline of dance throughout the regular dance season. A competitive group
dance is mandatory. (Ex. Tap soloist must be enrolled in a competitive Tap group listed on the regular
EDC dance season schedule.) Due to the large number of dances produced by Elite Dance Corps, unfortunately solo/duet/trio
dances may not appear in our year-end recital. Only those winning highest overall awards throughout the competition
season will be invited to perform. Please view our price list for more information.
Newsletters will be given throughout the year with all competition location information. Dancers
and parents can expect this information in late fall/early winter. All Competition fees are due in full by October 15th.
(Competition fees are $40 per group. Duets/Trios are $50 per dance, and Solos are $70 per dance).
Any fees not paid by the listed date will result in the removal of your child from the competition team. Competition
venue location/schedule will be given anywhere from 3 to 1 week in advance. Your child will have a specific date and
time for which they will be required to dance. It is your responsibility for transportation, accommodations (if necessary),
having all costume items and arriving on time. All dancers are asked to arrive and be ready to perform at least 1 hour
prior to their scheduled time. Some competitions run early and we don't want any disappointments as dancers can
be disqualified. Please note that Elite Dance Corps has no control over competition schedules.
The schedules are final and will not be changed unless the competition organization has made a scheduling error. Please
make yourself available for all dates listed for each competition. Elite Dance
Corps will attend 3 competitions throughout the season (spring), with a possible "Championship Finals"
competition in the summer. Not all groups will attend all competitions. You will be notified of which competitions
you will be attending once the competition schedule is finalized. Dancers/families will be required to travel to different
cities to attend dance competitions. It is mandatory that all competition team
dancers attend all competitions. If there is a major conflict for the dancer and/or his/her family,
then they will NOT be on the competition team. Dedication is required from dancers and their families as other
dancers and families are depending on you. This is what defines a team.
COMPETITION TEAM WINNINGS
Previously, the competition team dancers at EDC have been fortunate enough
to win monetary prizes at some of the competitions that we attended. Because the purpose of the monetary prize is to
better the dancers and studio, EDC has decided to put monetary prizes that we may win this upcoming
competition season towards our dancers directly. This will be done by inviting guest instructors to visit our dance
studio and share their expertise with our team. Not only will dancers get to learn new and different dance techniques,
but they will receive constructive criticism by other dance professionals. This will make them the strongest and most
well rounded dancers.
Because dancers are judged on their overall appearance, costumes play a huge role in their anticipated
success at competition. Costumes for competition team members are $100.00 - $150.00 per costume. All
competitive costume fees are due by December 15th. Jewelry, make-up, tights, and shoes will be extra and will be
available for sale at "Dance Threadz"...EDC's new dancewear supply store!
It is expected that all competition team members will make an honest effort to support all fundraising
activities because it is the dancers that will directly benefit from the proceeds. Elite Dance Corps
will not be in charge of any fundraising. It is up to the dancers and parents to arrange fundraising events entirely.
Please see Miss Tania before preparing any events.
COMPETITIVE DANCING IS A FUN AND EXCITING ATMOSPHERE AND WE CAN'T WAIT
TO HAVE YOU ON OUR TEAM! CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN
FOR SHOWING US YOUR PASSION FOR DANCE AND BEING SELECTED TO SHOWCASE IT TO DANCE PROFESSIONALS FROM AROUND THE WORLD!
